3 Quick Tips For Fall Decorating
Every September 1, I am itching to decorate for fall. I am over the August heat and ready for crisp mornings, football, and fall candles. Here are 3 easy ways that you can get attainable, high-end-looking fall decor without breaking the bank or having a pumpkin patch in your home.
Bring the outdoors, in (but not necessarily pumpkins).
The best way to create a fall scene in your home is to use the outdoors to your advantage. If you love orange, go all in on the pumpkins. Design has no rules, do what you want. However, I do not love orange or pumpkins. So how do you bring in the fall outdoors without pumpkins?? Leaves, and dried florals.
Fill a dark, earthy vase with tan/orange/red/yellow dried florals. This will give a high-end, designer look to your home while also screaming fall. Your guests will swoon over your ability to decorate without being theme-y.
Bring in texture in your throw pillows and blankets.
Run to your local Target and grab the following items: a linen throw pillow (or 2), a velvet throw pillow (or 2), and a checkered, ultra-soft throw blanket (or 500). Fall is all about cozy, and earthy. Burnt orange, olive green, or mustard yellow pillows and blankets will take your neutral-colored sofa and transform it into a fall paradise.
The easiest way to make your fall space NOT feel high-end is to use pillows that say “Fall” or “Pumpkin Patch” or anything related to that. You and your guests know it is fall, you do not have to hit them in the face with it. (But, as I said before, design has no rules, so do whatever makes your heart happy.)
Bring in the mood with lamps.
As the days start to grow shorter, and the mornings get increasingly gloomy, lamps will bring a moodiness to your home that screams fall. Lighting plays such an important role in your home, and it is one of the easiest things to overlook. Put a small, dark base lamp on the side table next to your sofa. Put a lamp on your kitchen counter. As the sun starts to go down, don’t flip on your recessed lights; turn on your lamps!!
The light from the lamps will accentuate the fall pieces that you just brought into your home and your space will feel like a pottery barn.
