Functional decor for a bathroom
No room comes with more necessary items than a bathroom. Beauty supplies, towels, all of the toilet items, and so many more. It does not matter how gorgeous your bathroom finishes are if you have all of your not-so-pretty bathroom items just thrown about. Here are 4 ways to incorporate functional, yet beautiful decor in your bathroom!
1. use a towel hook, not a bar
There are a few benefits to using a towel hook over a towel bar:
Saves space. You can hang 3 towels on towel hooks in the space it takes for 1 towel to be hung on a towel bar.
More aesthetic. A beautiful towel hung on a hook brings natural movement and beauty to the room.
2. use baskets/Trays/jars
Baskets and trays can be used on the counter, over the toilet, and on the floor. Throw a tray on the counter that houses the hand soap, toothbrush, etc. Place a basket on or next to the toilet with extra toilet paper. Place a basket outside of the shower to store extra towels…. There are countless ways to incorporate baskets and trays just to gather the items you already have in the bathroom, but make them upscale.
To get really fancy, bring in a small, decorative glass jar for q-tips, mouthwash, flossers, etc. You really can’t go wrong with anything in a basket, tray, or jar. Placing a box of q-tips on your counter looks lazy and very college; placing q-tips in a decorative jar on the counter makes them aesthetic while still being useful.
3. make it smell good with real plants and beautiful candles.
Let’s be real, bathrooms have a lot of potential to smell. BUT! Nothing can transform your bathroom into a spa-like room more than smell. Place some eucalyptus over the shower head for some natural beauty and a luxurious scent. Pair the jars or q-tips and flossers with a beautifully packaged candle. Not only does the candle look great, and not only does the candle smell great, but the light from the candle(s) can transform your night and morning routines.
4. use a wooden stool/bath tray
Natural wood tones evoke feelings of spas. A wooden stool can be placed just inside or just outside of the shower. A stool inside the shower can be used to house your soaps, etc, or be used for a shaving shelf. A stool outside the shower can hold your towel, or be used to store your robe, slippers, etc.
The wooden bath tray can transform even the most builder-grade bathroom into a luxurious retreat. It not only looks beautiful but is a game-changer for the ultimate bath experience!
An honorable mention (that is only being left off the list because it requires some construction) is a medicine cabinet IN THE WALL. Mirrored medicine cabinets that project from the wall are a thing of the 80s/90s. However, push it back into the wall so it appears to be only a mirror and now you have functional and HIDDEN storage for all of your not-so-pretty items.
